The Powderhorn Ranch is an Authentic Western Dude and Guest Ranch resort during the spring and summer. In the fall and winter the Ranch operates as The Powderhorn Edge, an exclusive, executive hunting, fishing, guiding and outfitting resort. If you want to have an exciting, Rocky Mountain big game hunt - you need an Edge - get The Powderhorn Edge!

Our Ranch is our home and the Powderhorn Ranch is family owned and operated. Colorado has the biggest Elk herd in the United States and we offer the highest quality hunts in Colorado's most beautiful 'High County'. Please check www.powderhornguestranch.com for photographs and information about our beautiful area!

Accommodations

All of our hunters are guests at our home. We treat you like guests, not like 'clients'. We take special attention and house you in individual, well-appointed, log cabins. Each cabin has heat, water and a private bathroom. We don't offer base camps, spike camps or drop camps. You will sleep in comfort in your own cabin each night! You can shoot pool or play foosball in our log lodge in the evening, or watch movies on our big screen TV.

Meals

All of our meals are prepared by a renowned, celebrity Chef or an experienced Ranch Cook. Your meals are served in our log 'Ross Lodge', where our capable wait-staff will attend to your every need!

Depending on the Hunting adventure you choose, you can eat three wonderful, fulfilling meals at the Lodge each day, or you can eat breakfast and Dinner at the lodge and have one 'pack lunch' prepared for your horse back adventure!

Terrain

All of our hunting adventures take place in remote and rugged wilderness areas. This area is replete with rough and physically taxing terrain. Your success will depend on the weather conditions, your fitness level and your hunting skill. Each night you will return to our luxurious lodge where you are served a custom prepared dinner, after which you can return to your individual cabin for a relaxing nights sleep in a real bed (no cots or sleeping bags!).

All of our Hunting adventures begin at 8,650 feet and can reach an elevation of 11,000 feet, so we expect you to be in reasonably good shape in order to handle the rigors of this terrain.

Guides & Outfitting

At the Powderhorn Ranch we only allow one guide per one hunter or one guide per two hunters. We do not allow unguided hunts. We do not allow quad-runners, 4-runners or any other means of hunting transportation. Our hunts are led out on horse or on foot. We have a herd of over 40 horses at our Ranch - they are all owned by the Powderhorn Ranch - not leased. All horses are able bodied and surefooted on our terrain. We choose to limit hunter accessibility to horse or foot adventures - this limits pressure and increases your possibility of encountering big game. we stalk or still hunt - whichever is most successful

We also maintain small guest ratios and high staff to guest ratios. This insures that you will get the personal, executive service that you require. Our resort is set up to serve you and meet your expectations.

We consistently see large numbers of elk with a good 'bull to cow' ratio. By implementing the draw, the Colorado Division of Wildlife is limiting the number of hunters in the field.

You will be expertly guided to your hunting area by an experienced guide and wrangler. Once at your hunting location we will assist you in setting up and when applicable assist you by bugling, calling or rattling for big game (depending on your hunting needs). We may bugle, cow call, stalk or stand - whichever is most effective.

Our Promise

Hunting a Limited License Unit (Colorado's newest limited draw area!) in a wilderness area on horse back or on foot offers you the best possible hunt in Colorado. Our experienced staff will put forth their utmost effort to make your hunt successful.

Our proximity to the 64,000 acre Powderhorn Primitive Wilderness and our location at 8,600 feet in a remote and secluded valley of the San Juan Mountains means fewer hunters vying for large elk and deer populations. your success will depend on your ability, physical condition and the weather at the time of your hunting adventure.

We limit our guests numbers to 4 or 6 (depending on the season) per week! By limiting our hunter-numbers, we guarantee that YOU will get the attention you expect from a premier Ranch resort! Our Ranch has a capacity of over 30 guests weekly, yet we limit our capacity to offer you better service!

Our guides work our Ranch and the surrounding area all year long while employed as Wranglers or Guides for the Powderhorn Ranch - they all know the area well and see big game all year long. This increases the chance of your guide putting you on big game.

Our Wranglers and Guides are taught to put our guests desires first and to make each guests hunting trip a pleasant and fulfilling adventure no matter whether an animal is harvested or not.

We do not promise you that by hunting at our Ranch you will harvest a Mule Deer, Elk, Bear, Coyote, Mountain Lion or any wild game. We do promise that you will have a fantastic, unforgettable vacation adventure in some of the most beautiful country in the world!
